thanksgiving in ohio

We’ve been up north most of the week for Thanksgiving in Ohio!  Thankfully the boys were much better travelers this time… they did great on the way up; the way back did not go quite as well, but we survived.  (and it was still an improvement from last time!)

Cullen & Lane got to see their grandparents, great grandparents, great uncles, Aunt Dee, & 2nd cousins (nope, they don’t have any cousins – YET! 🙂 ) and of course lots of “aunties” & friends in Ravenna.  Though we missed our Zaepfel family, we are thankful for a great visit with our Pyles family & friends!

great weekend… highlight of which was a NIGHT AWAY for Mommy & Daddy!   Thanks to the wonderful Grandpops & Grandma Z, we got to enjoy going out to dinner & spending the night “away” (as in…just down the street 😉 ) at our sweet friends’ house, as they were out of town for the weekend & graciously let us use their beautiful home as our own hotel!  Thank you!  It was a great, much needed mini-getaway for us.

my hot date!

back to work.

This guy is going back to work tomorrow…

…and while I’m SO happy & excited for him to have this new opportunity, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m a little nervous about being on my own again.  Logically, I really don’t know why–I took care of the boys day in & day out while he worked for a year, and we were totally fine!  In my head, I know I can do it… but I haven’t had to on a daily basis for almost 3 months now.  I will be the first to admit that my sweet servant of a husband has spoiled during his time at home with us.  He’s tackled more diapers than me, taken the boys out often so I can have some alone time (what is that?!), watched them here so I can meet girlfriends for lunch or coffee when ordinarily I wouldn’t be able to, and generally made my life easier.  So I guess I should just say thanks…

…thank you, honey, for serving us for the past few months.  I know it hasn’t been easy on you.  I know you’ve been frustrated with not having a job and feeling like you weren’t “providing” for us–but you have provided for us in so many other ways.  You’ve gotten to know Cullen & Lane on a whole new level (and I know they have LOVED it!), and you’ve made me feel so appreciated for taking care of them.  I realize that the past few months have been uncertain & hard on you, on us, but I’ve also truly enjoyed having so much family time together.  Maybe the reason for it wasn’t ideal, but the time together was priceless–and probably won’t happen again for who knows how long.  I kind of can’t believe it’s over already, it’s bittersweet!  Thank you for being such an incredible husband & father.

…so tomorrow morning I report to duty as well. Lauren Adair Pyles, stay at home mom of twins, is back in action.  I may be a little rusty and perhaps a little anxious (now they are toddlers, not just little babies! prayers appreciated, ha), but I’m sure we’ll get back to our normal routine before I know it.  And hey, at the end of the day, I’ll have a husband coming home from a job we are ever so much more grateful for, this time around.

e*trade baby

Here’s Master Cullen doing some day trading on Aunt Ash’s computer…

he must've made a lot of money on that one...

...however it seems that one didn't go so well. done for the day!

{I kept wondering why there seemed to be more pictures of C-bug, but now I realize: it’s because Laner is ALWAYS SLEEPING! :)}

My son{s}…

Proverbs 3: 1-12

1 My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,
2 for they will prolong your life many years
and bring you peace and prosperity.

3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD and shun evil.
8 This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.

9 Honor the LORD with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;
10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.

11 My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline,
and do not resent his rebuke,
12 because the LORD disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in.

God is good…and Jeff is employed!

Yesterday was an amazing day, for many reasons… we found out Jeff is getting a JOB!

He got a nice offer from Bank of America yesterday and has accepted – he’ll be starting in the next couple of weeks.

His official title is Assistant Vice President – Senior Operational Risk Specialist.  Now that’s a mouthful! 😉

Cullen, Lane, & I are SO proud of him.  He will be such an asset to their team & I will continue to get to stay home with my sweet boys!  What a blessing. We’re thankful for God’s answer to prayers.

Thank you all for your support & encouragement the past few months – we have such incredible friends & family!  You mean so much to us.

Cullen & Lane are now 15 months old… and the brother fun is starting to kick into high gear.  They are a hoot lately.  They’re starting to embrace all aspects of being brothers (or “bubba” as Lane calls his bro bro) – which means hilariously fun wrestling, laughing, playing together… as well as a not-so-fun new development – fighting…with two not-very-verbal toddlers.  Cullen has just learned the word “no” – which was darn cute at first, when he shook his head and laughed “no, no, no” at both appropriate & inappropriate situations – but not so cute when he started bossing his “little” brother around and screaming “no, no, no!” when Lane did something he wasn’t particularly pleased with.  Oh boy .

Now, since I have less and less time to write on the blog these days, I want to record how FUN they have been lately.  They can do so much now – I swear they went from toddling/walking to running/climbing/horsing around in 2.5 seconds.  They can play real activities with each other and I absolutely love that they have a built-in playmate.  This twin thing is really starting to get “easier” (ha… maybe just different challenges?).  Bedtime is a blast now instead of a circus & my favorite thing to do is get down on the floor & horse around with my little boys… I mean seriously – boys are so. much. fun.  My inner tomboy is definitely loving it.  They still aren’t very verbal, though they understand a lot of words – but they seem to understand each other’s babble so who needs a lot of real words? 🙂

Individually, they’re constantly changing as well.  C-bug has been showing a bit more maturity lately and throwing less tantrums (I said LESS. not none 😉 ) – just be careful after the afternoon nap; that’s when his inner grizzly bear shows up for a little while.  He has actually been very independent lately & entertains himself well with his curious, inquisitive nature.  He is certainly {gasp!} strong-willed, and yet also sensitive & intuitive.  He’s still as sweet as ever, loves his mama and is working on quite a repertoire of silly faces.

Lane has suddenly turned into an excellent snugglebug – not sure if this is just temporary or not, but we’re eating it up.  He’s been a bit more clingy in general (both boys are getting more needy of mommy lately – I know we’re getting to that age) but give him his bunny & our lap & he’ll just hang out for ages.  He is literally constantly covered in bruises – today he’s sporting a sweet shiner under his left eye (looks like football eye black), bruises over his right eye & under his chin, and various cuts & scrapes all over.  It’s just the way he is… we’re placing our bets that he’ll be the first to the ER.  The good thing is he’s still as tough as ever.  They both are loving hanging out with fun Uncle when he’s home.  Lane definitely loves his daddy (and generally warms up to men faster than women). Oh yeah, and sleeping.  As much as possible.

Now… since that was mainly for me – here are some photos for their fan club… how much fun is having a twin brother?

Halloween pics

A great fall party at the Hawks’, a visit from their Ohio grandparents & Aunt Kristen, and some fun with neighborhood friends… makes for a pretty darn fun weekend!
